Kuwait Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Crypto Mining Operations
Kuwaiti authorities have launched a sweeping campaign against unauthorized cryptocurrency mining, targeting residential properties suspected of housing mining rigs. Over 60 individuals are under investigation, with the Public Prosecution warning of potential additional suspects. The operation, coordinated by Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef and Minister of Electricity Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, aims to alleviate strain on the national grid caused by illicit power consumption.
Blackouts in certain areas have been attributed to these unlicensed operations. The Ministry of Electricity has begun disconnecting power to identified illegal mining facilities. This crackdown reflects growing global concerns about energy-intensive crypto mining operations and their impact on national infrastructure.
